Jeonnam Development Corporation (JDC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with KWANGLIM Co., Ltd. to jointly develop a 160 MW offshore wind power project in Yeonggwang County. This partnership marks a significant step in advancing South Korea's domestic offshore wind energy capabilities.

The collaboration establishes a foundation for attracting the government's 20 MW-class domestically-manufactured turbine technology development and demonstration project. This initiative aims to strengthen the competitiveness of Korea's offshore wind technology by providing a practical testing ground for indigenous turbine systems.

The project builds upon JDC's operational experience from the Yeonggwang-Yaksu offshore wind farm, which has been successfully operating at 4.3 MW capacity. This existing operational base provides valuable insights and infrastructure that will support the development and validation of next-generation domestic wind turbine technology.

The Yeonggwang region is positioning itself as a hub for offshore wind energy innovation, combining commercial operations with research and development activities. This dual approach is expected to accelerate the localization of offshore wind turbine technology and reduce Korea's dependence on foreign manufacturers in this strategic energy sector.
