Pacifico Energy Korea has been selected as the final project developer for the "Jindo Stage 2 Offshore Wind Integrated Complex," a project comprising two sites—Manho Offshore Wind and Jindo Baram Offshore Wind—with a combined capacity of 2.13GW. Pacifico Energy Korea, headquartered in the United States, announced on the 20th that Manho Offshore Wind and Jindo Baram Offshore Wind have concluded an implementation management agreement with Jeollanam-do Gwangju Integrated Special City and Jindo County, officially confirming the selection.
The Jindo Stage 2 Offshore Wind Integrated Complex is a 2.13GW project that will develop two sites—Manho Offshore Wind and Jindo Baram Offshore Wind—in waters off Jindo County. Jeollanam-do Gwangju Integrated Special City is serving as the implementing agency. The project finalized its plan following marine site consultations by relevant ministries and first and second public-private coordination meetings last year, and was designated as an integrated complex by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment in March of this year. In June, the implementing agency evaluation committee conducted a project developer suitability assessment to verify business execution capacity and the appropriateness of business plan implementation.
Manho Offshore Wind and Jindo Baram Offshore Wind, now designated as project developers, represent the Stage 2 and Stage 3 projects of a 3.2GW offshore wind cluster that Pacifico Energy Korea is developing in Jindo waters. Stage 1, the 420MW Myeongryanghaesang Offshore Wind project, obtained a power generation business licence in September last year and completed an environmental impact assessment draft in March of this year. Stage 2's 990MW Manho Offshore Wind and Stage 3's 1.8GW Jindo Baram Offshore Wind are currently in the process of applying for power generation business licences.
Pacifico Energy Korea plans to accelerate development of the Jindo offshore wind project following this project developer selection. The company aims to establish a large-scale renewable energy supply foundation to meet future electricity demand for RE100 industrial complexes and advanced manufacturing in the Jeollanam-do Gwangju region. The company particularly anticipates that as Jeollanam-do Gwangju Integrated Special City pursues designation of a national industrial complex to establish a Honam semiconductor cluster, offshore wind will play an increasingly important role as a renewable energy source to meet large-scale power demand.
Choi Seung-ho, CEO of Pacifico Energy Korea, stated: "This designation as project developer is an important milestone in cooperating with Jeollanam-do Gwangju Integrated Special City and Jindo County to build a large-scale offshore wind integrated complex in the region. We plan to accelerate development of the Jindo Stage 2 Offshore Wind Integrated Complex, composed of Manho Offshore Wind and Jindo Baram Offshore Wind, through continuous investment." He added: "We will cooperate with the region so that renewable energy produced from Jindo Stage 2 Offshore Wind can be stably supplied to advanced industries in Jeollanam-do Gwangju, leading to regional economic revitalization, job creation, and the formation of an offshore wind industry ecosystem."
