(Dangjin=Yonhapnews) Reporter Jung Yun-deok = Dangjin City in South Chungcheong Province announced on the 19th that it has signed a business agreement with LX International to develop Dangjin Port's Godae Pier as a support port for offshore wind installation. The candidate site for the offshore wind installation support port, located in Hanjin-ri, Songak-eup, Dangjin City, spans 194,000 square meters and is planned to be equipped with ship mooring facilities and offshore wind equipment handling areas. Once the project, which will require a total investment of 300 billion won, is completed, dedicated infrastructure capable of stably supporting the installation of large-scale offshore wind power plants generating 500 megawatts or more annually will be secured. The city explained that the project will enable pre-assembly of large equipment on land and establish a departure point, thereby shortening construction periods and reducing logistics costs, while also raising the brand value of Dangjin Port as an eco-friendly renewable energy specialized port. In particular, the city projected that the project will invigorate the overall Dangjin regional economy through attracting offshore wind-related parts and equipment companies, activating related upstream and downstream industries, and creating direct and indirect employment across infrastructure construction and port operation and maintenance phases. Mayor Kim Ki-jae of Dangjin City said, "The construction of an offshore wind installation support port is an important turning point for eco-friendly energy transition and securing future competitiveness of Dangjin Port," and added, "Using this agreement as a stepping stone, we will spare no administrative support so that core infrastructure for renewable energy marine logistics in the West Coast region can be developed."
