Taihan Cable & Solution announced on the 17th that it will soon deploy the cable laying vessel (CLV) "Skandi Connector" to the Nagwol offshore wind power project in Yeonggwang. On the 12th at Gamcheon Port in Busan, a safety operation prayer ceremony for the Skandi Connector was held, attended by Song Jong-min, Vice Chairman of Taihan Cable & Solution, and Kim Dae-heon, Chief Planning Officer of Hoban Group.
The Skandi Connector is a 11,000-ton class CLV acquired by Taihan Cable & Solution in May, the largest of its kind domestically for offshore wind power. It is capable of loading large-capacity submarine cables, long-distance transportation, laying, and burial. After completing domestic port entry and ship delivery last month, the company has been preparing for field deployment through ship inspections, equipment maintenance, and operational crew composition.
The vessel is scheduled to be deployed to the Nagwol offshore wind power project in Yeonggwang this month to perform burial work on submarine cables that have already been laid. The company plans to use a trencher, a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) mounted on the ship, to bury the submarine cables at a certain depth below the seabed. This prevents damage from external factors such as fishing gear and ship anchors.
Starting with the Yeonggwang Nagwol offshore wind power project, Taihan Cable & Solution plans to deploy the Skandi Connector to major submarine cable projects domestically and internationally. Together with the existing CLV "PALOS," the company plans to operate a dual-track construction system that flexibly operates vessels according to project scale and construction characteristics.
A Taihan Cable & Solution official stated, "Operating the Skandi Connector will be an important opportunity to elevate Taihan Cable & Solution's construction competitiveness in the submarine cable market. Based on our strengthened turnkey execution capabilities, we will provide customers with differentiated submarine cable total solutions and accelerate our global market strategy."
