SK Offshore Plant has successfully secured a contract to supply a complete HVDC offshore substation jacket structure for Germany's Borwin5 offshore wind project in the North Sea. The contract is valued at approximately 160.5 billion won (approximately $110.7 million).
This marks the first time a domestic Korean company has supplied an entire core infrastructure component of an ultra-large HVDC offshore substation for European grid connection in complete product form. SK Offshore Plant will manufacture a 15,000-ton jacket structure and 20 skirt piles for the project, demonstrating significant technological advancement in the offshore wind industry.
According to SK Offshore Plant's CEO Kang Young-gyu, the company plans to use this contract as a stepping stone to establish itself as a key partner in the global offshore wind supply chain. The successful completion of this project is expected to open doors for continued expansion of orders in European offshore wind projects.
This achievement represents a major milestone for SK Offshore Plant's transition from a component supplier to a complete-product provider in the international offshore wind market, positioning the company to compete at the highest levels of the global offshore wind industry.
