Geoje City Receives AIP Certification for Seongpo Port Floating Structure Testbed

Geoje City received Approval in Principle (AIP) certification from KR (Korean Register) on October 16, 2026 for the Seongpo Port floating structure testbed, opening a new chapter in marine infrastructure technology. This certification holds significant meaning in that it reviewed the design feasibility of multipurpose marine floating infrastructure technology and laid the groundwork for advancing demonstration projects.

The certification presentation ceremony held at the mayor's office was attended by officials from KR and the Floating Infrastructure Research Group (FLORA). This certification resulted from the floating structure testbed to be installed at Seongpo Port undergoing review for compliance with relevant standards and rules, and confirming technical feasibility and reliability through engineering analysis and risk assessment. As a local government selected as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's "Development of Multipurpose Marine Floating Infrastructure Construction Technology" project, the city is conducting joint research and development with Seoul National University's Industry-University Cooperation Foundation, Coby Korea Inc., and Cable Bridge Inc.
