Korea Hydro Nuclear Power (KHNP) and Hanwha Ocean have signed a key conditions agreement to jointly develop the Yeonggwang Chilhae offshore wind power project with a capacity of 1,020 MW off the coast of Yeonggwang County.
The project is scheduled to begin construction in September 2029 and commence commercial operation by October 2032. The partnership combines KHNP's experience in renewable energy development and operation with Hanwha Ocean's expertise in offshore structures and marine plant engineering to maximize project efficiency and competitiveness.
This joint venture is expected to contribute significantly to the government's goal of achieving 10.5 GW of offshore wind capacity in the ready-to-construct and under-construction stages by 2030. The project represents a strategic collaboration between a major nuclear power operator and a leading offshore engineering company to strengthen Korea's renewable energy portfolio.
The agreement marks an important step in Korea's transition toward clean energy, leveraging the complementary strengths of both companies to develop one of the country's major offshore wind projects.
