Wind turbine specialist Unison announced on September 17, 2026 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on mutually beneficial cooperation for building an offshore wind industry ecosystem with Jeollabuk-do Province, Gunsan City, and Gunsan University.
According to the company, the signing ceremony took place at the opening of the 2026 Saemangeum Clean Energy Expo held at the Gunsan Saemangeum Convention Center. The four institutions agreed to establish an investment and administrative support framework and an industry-academia cooperation system to advance the offshore wind industry in the Jeollabuk and Gunsan regions and revitalize the local economy.
Unison will pursue investment in a wind turbine factory in Gunsan and cooperate in relocating research and maintenance facilities. Jeollabuk-do Province and Gunsan City will provide administrative and licensing support and facilitate the use of local company equipment, while Gunsan University will take charge of training specialized personnel and providing research and testing technology support.
Unison is actively pursuing business in offshore wind turbine supply, operations and maintenance (O&M), and turbine development. The company has completed demonstration of a 10 megawatt offshore wind turbine and begun power generation, and plans to supply offshore wind turbines for the 340 megawatt Hanbit offshore wind farm and the 76.2 megawatt Gochang offshore wind farm. Based on operational experience accumulated in onshore wind, the company is also conducting offshore wind O&M business.
Based on this cooperation, Unison plans to link turbine production, research and maintenance, and specialized personnel training to establish an offshore wind industry foundation in the Gunsan region.
An Unison official said, "We will work closely with Jeollabuk-do Province, Gunsan City, and Gunsan University to proceed with Gunsan investment without disruption and contribute to building a regional offshore wind industry ecosystem."
