POSCO E&C has drawn attention by releasing a video that previews the construction process for a 100-meter-plus offshore wind turbine in Gochang.

On September 25, 2026, POSCO E&C uploaded a video titled "How to Build a 100m Tower in the Middle of the Sea" to its YouTube channel, introducing the construction process for an offshore wind turbine.

The Gochang offshore wind power project involves creating an offshore wind farm with a total capacity of 76.2MW in waters near Sanghwa-myeon and Haeri-myeon in Gochang County, North Jeolla Province.

Foundation and Structural Assembly

Construction begins with foundation work. Large-diameter steel pipe piles are driven into the seabed, then reinforcing bars are inserted inside the piles and concrete is poured to create a foundation that supports the turbine.

On top of this, a PC house measuring 15 meters in diameter and 4.8 meters in height is installed using a large crane. A PC house is a large precast concrete structure that is manufactured in advance to enable foundation concrete work at sea.

Next, submarine cables are buried on the seabed using a dedicated burial machine. These submarine cables connect each wind turbine and allow the generated power to flow.

Tower Assembly and Installation

At sea, a total of four tower sections are assembled in sequence. Tower sections of 17 meters, 24 meters, 28.7 meters, and 31 meters in height are stacked to complete a structure exceeding 100 meters above sea level.

At the top of the tower, a nacelle containing key equipment such as a generator and control devices is installed. The wind turbine is then completed by connecting blades that rotate in the wind to the hub.

Power Supply and Environmental Impact

Energy produced at this site is scheduled to be supplied to the southwestern region of North and South Jeolla provinces, where data centers and semiconductor clusters will be located. POSCO E&C estimates the project will achieve an annual carbon reduction effect of approximately 67,000 tons.

POSCO E&C formed a joint venture with wind turbine specialist Unison in August and concluded a contract for the Gochang offshore wind power project.
