Mingyang advances 25MW floating turbine; Ulsan faces scale and tech adoption challenges

Chinese wind turbine manufacturer MingYang has disclosed progress in developing a 25MW floating wind turbine and plans to put it into production this year.

While domestic offshore wind auctions center on 14 to 15MW turbines, Ulsan's floating offshore wind projects must also examine infrastructure capacity to accommodate larger turbines and methods for adopting overseas technology.

On October 14, MingYang announced at the Beijing International Wind Power Exhibition (CWP 2026) that development of its 25MW floating turbine is progressing and it plans to introduce it to the production line this year. Of seven floating wind turbines currently operating in China, four were developed by MingYang itself, employing various designs including semi-submersible, dual-rotor, and tension-leg platform (TLP) systems.
