South Korea's offshore wind sector is facing significant economic challenges as falling bid cap prices and the elimination of Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) weight adjustments threaten project viability. In response, industry stakeholders are seeking solutions through innovations in project finance (PF) and operations and maintenance (O&M) optimization.

At the 2026 Wind Power Networking Seminar hosted by the Korea Electric Industry Association, domestic and international experts gathered to address these pressing issues. Representatives from leading organizations including CIP, DNV, and EDF Power Solutions presented strategies to stabilize the market amid policy-driven uncertainties.

Key discussion topics centered on improving bankability conditions for offshore wind project financing and implementing data-driven approaches to enhance operational efficiency. Experts emphasized the importance of robust risk management during the early stages of project development to ensure financial viability despite the challenging regulatory environment.

The seminar highlighted that through systematic optimization of O&M practices and more sophisticated project finance structures, the offshore wind industry can navigate current policy headwinds and maintain sustainable growth in South Korea's renewable energy market.
