KB Financial Group is broadening its productive finance initiatives by securing industry partners and global financial firms in succession. The group is identifying investment targets in future industries such as renewable energy and artificial intelligence data centers, while also strengthening capital market competitiveness through the use of data and global networks.

According to financial sector sources on September 18, 2026, KB Financial recently concluded a memorandum of understanding with BS Group on expanding productive finance and mutual growth, followed by a partnership with Bloomberg to expand global capital market cooperation.

The two agreements address different areas: industrial project discovery and capital market capability enhancement. However, both align with KB Financial's productive finance strategy of mobilizing the capabilities of group subsidiaries including banking, securities, asset management, and capital to supply funds to future industries and secure new revenue bases.

KB Financial will first work with BS Group to discover joint projects in key infrastructure sectors including renewable energy, energy infrastructure, and AI data centers. The agreement involves KB Financial Holdings, KB Kookmin Bank, KB Securities, KB Asset Management, KB Capital, BS Bosung, BS Hanyang, and BS Industrial.

Key cooperation areas include renewable energy and eco-friendly power plants, energy hub terminals, ports and utilities, residential and industrial complexes, AI and energy new cities and AI data centers, and corporate finance services such as mergers and acquisitions and initial public offerings.

BS Group has secured development experience and business pipelines by pursuing multiple large-scale projects in renewable energy and energy infrastructure sectors. The group plans to establish a large-scale data center and a 5.4 gigawatt renewable energy offshore wind integrated zone around Solarsido in Haenam, Jeollanam-do.

For KB Financial, connecting the group's financial advisory, arrangement, and investment capabilities to the industrial sector's business pipelines enables it to secure actual investment targets for productive finance. Rather than simply supplying loans, the structure allows the group to participate throughout a company's growth process from early project development through fundraising, investment, mergers and acquisitions, and initial public offerings.

KB Financial has already performed financial arrangements for the Sinan Ui offshore wind power project and secured financial arrangement rights for the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster district energy project. The agreement is expected to further expand opportunities for participation in large-scale projects centered on AI and energy infrastructure.

Strengthening internal systems for advanced industries

KB Financial is also strengthening internal systems to discover and evaluate advanced industry companies. KB Kookmin Bank, a core subsidiary, has established an Advanced Strategic Industry Review Unit and hired external specialists including patent attorneys, while KB Securities has expanded review personnel by national strategic industry. This shift aims to move away from collateral and past performance-focused reviews toward evaluation of technological capabilities and future growth potential.

The group also operates an Advanced Strategic Industry Study Forum that analyzes the so-called ABCDEF industries: artificial intelligence, biotechnology, content, defense, energy, and manufacturing. Researchers, investment and sales staff, and review and risk management personnel from within the group participate to analyze industry value chains, growth potential, business models, and risk factors by sector.

KB Financial plans to establish a 150 billion won KB Kookmin Growth Unicorn Scale-up Fund to invest in growth-stage companies in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, secondary batteries, aerospace, mobility, robotics, and biotechnology. The fund will be financed through group subsidiary capital, with KB Securities PE Growth Investment Division managing operations.

Capital market partnership with Bloomberg

The Bloomberg partnership focuses on enhancing capital market expertise to support the expansion of industrial finance. KB Financial plans to use Bloomberg's financial information and analysis solutions to improve trading and investment procedures and strengthen portfolio and risk management capabilities.

The group will also identify cooperation projects in data governance and digital transformation, and work to introduce KB Financial's products and services to global market participants. The plan is to leverage Bloomberg's data and global network to expand touchpoints with overseas investors and customers.

However, the Bloomberg agreement appears to focus on strengthening the capital market foundation supporting productive finance rather than the productive finance business itself. Supplying large-scale long-term funds to future industries requires not only identifying investment targets but also accurate market analysis, risk management, and the ability to connect domestic and international investment capital.

Financial sector observers note that KB Financial is materializing productive finance as a new growth business for the group rather than simply expanding corporate lending. The strategy integrates industry analysis, corporate review, internal investment, project finance, and global capital market linkage into a single structure to simultaneously expand financial support for future industries and the group's profit opportunities.
