Jeju Governor Wi Seong-gon requested National Assembly support on October 22 during a National Assembly Public Administration and Security Committee audit, calling for the 3GW offshore wind power project to be reflected in national plans and seeking assistance in fostering future industries and expanding local finances.
At remarks delivered during the audit held at Jeju Provincial Government's Tamna Hall, Governor Wi said, "Jeju currently faces severe economic difficulties due to persistent high prices and economic slowdown," and added, "We are concentrating all of the provincial government's capabilities with people's livelihoods as the top priority."
He continued, "We are turning the climate crisis into a growth opportunity for Jeju and cultivating new growth engines through artificial intelligence and future industries. Since Jeju is a place where we can be the first to demonstrate energy transition and the AI transformation, institutional and financial support from the National Assembly is necessary so that Jeju's potential can lead to actual change."
