HD Hyundai Electric has become the first domestic power equipment company to supply transformers and shunt reactors to a European offshore wind farm.

According to industry sources on September 18, 2026, HD Hyundai Electric announced on its official LinkedIn post on September 17, 2026 the departure of a large offshore substation (OSS). The post showed an offshore substation equipped with HD Hyundai Electric's 275kV-class transformer and reactor leaving the PTSC M&C yard in Vung Tau, Vietnam, bound for a Baltic Sea site in Poland.

This departure marks the first instance of an offshore substation carrying a transformer and shunt reactor supplied by a domestic power equipment company being transported to a European offshore wind farm. After entering the European offshore wind market, HD Hyundai Electric has demonstrated its capability to execute global projects by manufacturing core power equipment and delivering it to actual sites.

The Sail Away Ceremony, held to commemorate the departure, took place on September 12, 2026 at the PTSC yard in Vung Tau, Vietnam. Key officials from Ørsted, Semco Maritime, and HD Hyundai Electric attended the event to celebrate the offshore substation's departure.

Application to the Baltika 2 Project

The 275kV-class transformer and shunt reactor installed on the offshore substation will be applied to the Baltika 2 project, which is being developed approximately 40 kilometers offshore from Poland's coast. Baltika 2 is a large-scale offshore wind power project jointly developed by Danish energy company Ørsted and PGE (Poland's state-owned power company).

An offshore substation is a critical facility that collects power generated by offshore wind turbines and sends it to the onshore power grid. It converts power to a voltage suitable for transmission and delivers it to the onshore grid through submarine cables.

Technical Requirements and Capabilities

The transformer supplied for this project steps up wind power to high voltage, enabling long-distance transmission, while the shunt reactor reduces unnecessary voltage fluctuations in the power grid to support stable power supply. As large-scale offshore wind farms increase, the importance of power equipment for reliably delivering generated power to the onshore grid grows.

Offshore wind power equipment must operate for extended periods in harsh marine environments with salt, humidity, vibration, and temperature changes, and thus typically requires higher levels of reliability and quality than onshore facilities. After installation, offshore access is restricted and maintenance is constrained.

By supplying 275kV-class transformers and shunt reactors capable of meeting these operating conditions, HD Hyundai Electric has once again demonstrated its technological strength and product competitiveness in the offshore wind sector. As the first domestic power equipment company to reach the stage of actual on-site delivery for a European offshore wind project, the company is expected to gain momentum for business expansion in the global market.

An HD Hyundai Electric official said, "The Baltika 2 project is an important case demonstrating HD Hyundai Electric's technological strength and product competitiveness in the European offshore wind market, which demands high reliability. We will continue to strengthen our technological competitiveness in the offshore wind sector and the clean energy sector going forward."
