Gunsan City held a meeting chaired by the mayor on September 10, 2026, to review progress in military operational compatibility consultations for the Eocheong offshore wind integrated zone and discuss key issues and future response measures.
The Eocheong offshore wind integrated zone is a project to develop a 1.02 GW offshore wind power generation facility in waters near Eocheong Island. It was designated as an offshore wind integrated zone in March on the condition that military operational compatibility consultations be completed by December.
The city has been conducting consultations by directly visiting the Ministry of National Defense and eight military subordinate units.
In particular, the city is working with advisory bodies in the military operational field to review operational impact factors for each unit and develop mutually acceptable consultation methods.
The city plans to continue communicating with military-related agencies and complete military operational compatibility consultations without delay by the end of the year.
Gunsan Mayor Kim Jaejun said, "It is important that offshore wind power projects, which are key to future energy, proceed stably in harmony with national security. I urge all parties to communicate closely with military units during the remaining period so that military operational compatibility consultations can be completed without delay."
