Yongjam plant completes monopile-dedicated facility with annual production capacity of 150,000 tons
On October 26, GS Entech's Yongjam plant in Nam-gu, Ulsan came into view. On factory grounds adjacent to the sea stood a dedicated production facility for monopiles, the large steel structures that support offshore wind turbines. The plant, which had manufactured equipment for refineries and petrochemical facilities, completed a facility conversion involving approximately 300 billion won in investment and has been transformed into a specialized factory for offshore wind substructures capable of producing a maximum of 150,000 tons of monopiles annually.
The production facility toured after the completion ceremony was fitted with large equipment that processes thick steel plates into cylindrical forms and welds them. The method involves rolling steel plates into cylindrical components, welding them together, and then assembling them into large structures. The facility has an automated production system spanning from steel plate processing through welding and painting.
