The direction of KNOC's East Sea1 floating offshore wind project is becoming uncertain. The original plan was to reduce project costs by reusing the offshore platform from the East Sea gas field, but with key facilities now slated for dismantling and the possibility of Equinor, a major project participant, withdrawing, a reassessment of the project's direction has become unavoidable.

According to the energy industry on Oct. 22, recently KNOC, Equinor, and EWP (Korea East-West Power), which form the project consortium, have been discussing the future direction of the East Sea1 floating offshore wind project. The project was promoted as South Korea's first floating offshore wind farm, designed to create a 200 megawatt power generation complex by reusing the offshore platform from the East Sea gas field, which ended production at the end of 2021.
