ACE E&T, a domestic floating offshore wind specialist, is preparing Korea's first offshore field demonstration of a nozzle-injection hydraulic mooring load reduction device and digital twin technology for real-time monitoring. The company is developing this technology as part of a KETEP (Korea Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning) research and development project.
The mooring load reduction device is designed to lower the tensile load on mooring lines, which is a critical component that directly impacts the economic viability of floating offshore wind farms. Currently, high peak mooring line tensions require oversized anchors and increase overall installation costs, making this innovation essential for improving project economics.
ACE E&T has completed both basic and detailed design phases of the technology. The company plans to proceed with scaled-model performance evaluation tests before moving forward with actual offshore field demonstrations in Korean waters.
The digital twin technology integrated with the mooring load reduction device will enable real-time monitoring and analysis of system performance, providing crucial data for optimizing floating offshore wind operations and ensuring long-term reliability of mooring systems.
