Taean County in South Chungcheong Province has officially launched a civic committee to attract the integrated headquarters of five state-owned power companies. The committee, representing the entire county, will work to bring the consolidated operations of the major power generation firms to the region.

The initiative comes as the government's coal phase-out policy by 2040 will result in the closure of all 10 coal-fired power plants currently operating in Taean. Facing significant economic challenges from this transition, the county is positioning itself as an ideal location for the power companies' headquarters relocation.

Taean argues that it possesses the optimal foundation for this transition, citing its status as having the largest power generation infrastructure in the country. The region is also promoting its potential for future energy industries, including offshore wind power and solar energy development.

The civic committee plans to conduct signature campaigns and intensify lobbying efforts with the central government and parliament to secure the relocation of the five power companies' integrated headquarters to Taean, emphasizing the region's strategic advantages and infrastructure capabilities.
