Busan Offshore Wind Development is drawing attention as Korea's first public-led offshore wind project, being jointly promoted with Korea Southern Power. The Dadaepo 99MW offshore wind project represents a significant shift in how offshore wind developments are structured and managed in the country.
The project will install 10 domestic turbines manufactured by Doosan Enerbility, each with a capacity of 9.9MW. These turbines are expected to generate approximately 260,000 MWh of electricity annually, contributing substantially to the region's renewable energy supply and supporting Korea's clean energy transition goals.
A key distinguishing feature of this public-led model is its emphasis on community benefit and local economic development. The project is expanding the utilization of regional companies and workforce across all stages of development, including design, procurement, construction, and operations. This approach ensures that the benefits of the project extend beyond energy production to create sustained economic opportunities for local businesses and workers.
The Dadaepo project establishes a cooperative structure that shares long-term operational revenues with local residents and communities. This revenue-sharing mechanism represents a new approach to offshore wind development in Korea, aligning with the country's offshore wind special law and demonstrating how public-led projects can balance energy production with community welfare and sustainable local development.
