Chungcheongnam-do province has been selected to construct a specialized testing center for large offshore wind turbine components at the Seokmun National Industrial Complex in Dangjin, with a total investment of 364 billion won.

The facility will be equipped to test pitch and yaw bearings for 15MW-class and larger offshore wind turbines. The project will be funded through a combination of national budget (150 billion won), local government funding (200 billion won), and private investment (14 billion won).

The testing center is expected to establish international-standard verification systems that will reduce Korea's dependence on overseas testing facilities. This infrastructure development aims to promote the localization of core components and strengthen the independence of the domestic supply chain for offshore wind energy.

The establishment of this testing center is anticipated to accelerate the development of Korea's offshore wind industry by providing domestic verification capabilities for critical turbine components, thereby reducing reliance on foreign testing institutions and supporting the growth of the renewable energy sector.
